Shello! My name is Una and I am a professional mermaid! Since 2012, I have been bringing magic and entertaining the Pacific NW at private and community events. I am also the proud organizer and host of the annual Portlandia Mermaid Parade & Festival , Siren's Ball, and PDX SPLASH Month!.
Born in Honolulu HI, my origins are deeply connected to the Ocean. I have always identified as a mermaid. After moving to the mainland I felt a sense of cultural loss, and disconnect from Mother ocean. I am Hawaiian at heart and was raised with strong cultural values around maintaining and cultivating the spirit of Aloha. While I deeply miss Hawaii, I remain committed to sharing the teachings and spirit of Aloha here at my current place of residency, Portland Oregon!
I hold a master's degree in conflict resolution, and a Ph.D in psychology. I have a background in adult education, child development and restorative justice. I integrate my knowledge of child and adult development to encourage non-violent play and transformational healing. As a survivor of childhood trauma and family violence, I have dedicated my life to finding creative ways to help others heal and tap into the heart of creativity and wonder. Imagination is a key to healing!
I am a passionate about social justice and have been a long time activist and advocate in my community for restorative justice, racial equity, and violence reduction. I strongly believe creativity is the key in cultivating cultures of peace. I also believe imaginative endeavors can help initiate the brave and often uncomfortable conversations needed to help raise awareness on issues that matter. I integrate restorative values and practices into everything I do.
I am also a water priestess and mermaid oracle. A water priestess is one who is dedicated to serving the element of water, both physically and in archetype . The role of the water priestess is to serve as a living reminder of the sacredness of water and to help cultivate personal and spiritual healing for self and others. This work also includes water justice, stewardship, and preservation. Water is not merely an element, it is a life force and a living heritage of the Earth and all of its inhabitants. As a mermaid oracle I am deeply in tune with the spiritual lessons and wisdom of the waterfolk, and enjoy getting to share this knowledge with others. I specialize in mermaid and seashell oracle readings. I am also currently in the process of developing the Wai-Ola Temple for Water Healing and Magic.
