As the Founder and Tidekeeper of the Portlandia Mermaid Parade & Festival, I’ve had the joy and honor of bringing this sea-loving celebration to life for over a decade. What began as a playful gathering of merfolk and ocean dreamers has grown into a vibrant, multi-day event that brings together performers, families, artists, and community members in the spirit of creativity, inclusivity, and aquatic magic.
The Portlandia Mermaid Parade is the heart of the festival, a free, all-ages celebration along the downtown Portland waterfront featuring colorful costumes, music, bubbles, and the magic of community expression. Over the years, the festival has expanded to include the Sirens Ball, a dazzling after-dark dance and coronation event for adults, and the PNW Mermaid Confluence, a daytime convention and gathering space for merfolk of all ages to learn, connect, and explore the mermaid arts.
Each event is curated with care to reflect values of joy, representation, and environmental reverence. As Tidekeeper, my role includes shaping the vision, coordinating creative and logistical tides, and nurturing the growing pod of collaborators who make this mermaid magic possible year after year.
